Biker cinema

The cornerstones in a biker’s life may be summarized in: a good motorbike, a great leather jacket and some rocking biker boots, this in terms of style. In their social life: being with their biker and rocker friends; and culturally: feel identified with some classy yet hard music not made for everyone and some old good biker movies.

Achieving all of this it’s just amazing, and we could tell us some stories that we know about our most legendary customers, heard always at Corbeto’s Boots store, but today this isn’t our topic. Instead, today we’re going to talk about the so-called ‘biker cinema’, great movies where motorcycles, bikers and gangs are the main subject, not a cliché, focused on a lifestyle where riding a motorbike is a commandment, not a choice.

And regarding our movie selection, this would be like choosing a motorcycle itself: everyone will have their own list and maybe someone won’t be agree at all, anyway this pretend to be an introduction for those of you who want to explore this kind of cinema.

So let’s check today a little biker movie selection we curated at Corbeto’s specially for you, right now!

The Wild One

This movie filmed in 1953 is a classic par excellence, a blockbuster for many people even in the 70’s and 80’s, that most of us can recognize for some scenes, but not so many have seen it. If you consider yourself a true biker this movie should be in your canon, as it’s always interesting to watch a young Marlon Brand riding a Triumph Thunderbird 6T and become the icon (and an idol) by acting as an agressive member of a dangerous biker gang. In this movie a young band of rowdy rebels appear in a peaceful town like a pirate shouting Land Ho! and causing some violent riots in there. This movie got inspired by the Hollister Riots in the 30’s that founded the first Motorclubs, and Brando had a great recognizement thanks to this role.

The Girl On a Motorcycle

This French film directed in 1968 by Jack Cardiff and starred by Alain Delon and Marianne Faithfull tells the story of Rebecca, an open-minded women who left his husband and his boring life. On top of a Harley Davidson she travels to Heidelberg to make a visit to her lover. On the road she will meet with tons of frenzy people, including some mens to add to her list. This film will always be remembered because of the erotic scenes between the two main characters Alain Delon and Marianne Faithfull, who at that time was Mick Jagger’s partner.

Easy Rider

This 1969 movie is starred by Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, in the role of Wyatt and Billy respectively. These two young riders from Los Angeles set out on a trip to New Orleans crossing the whole country to discover United States. After selling cocaine to a man form Los Angeles, go to Mardî Gras party. During their journey they meet really bizarre people, a farmer and his family, a hippie commune hitch-hiker… Until there comes a time they are arrested at a little village by stopping without permission. When behind bars, a drunk lawyer, (Jack Nicholson), does them a favour getting them out of the jail to later join them.

On any sunday

This 1971’s documentary film was directed by Bruce Brown. There’s who consider it as the greatest motorcycle movie of all times. The documentary, produced by the great Steve McQueen, talks about the passion many people feels about motorcycles. This movie contributed to motocross races no longer be considered as a maniac activity to become a professional sport. It describes passion for the motorcycles from the view of the most famous drivers at that time like Mert Lawwill and Malcom Smith. Two living legends that standed out at the most important US tracks. The director captured most dangerous races’ back room where these men risked their lives at every event they participated. What makes a person to take those risks? How can be explained these rider’s enthusiasm by motorcycles and tracks? These are the questions that Brown question in this film and get answers.
